Ivy

It happened again. I let him slide up between my thighs and give me something I didn’t know I needed until he was sitting in front of me.

My computer dings, and I climb off his lap, fixing my outfit. He scoffs at me and stands up fixing his pants. I walk around and look at the email.

I print the contract and go to grab it from the printer. I close my eyes and take a deep breath where he can’t see me. I walk back and grab my purse when I hand him the stack of paper.

“Look it over tonight. I got you the best deals that I could. Drop it off to me, signed, at some point tomorrow.” He just stares at me as I usher him out the door. “My dad will be in town tomorrow, so let me know before you stop in.”

“I haven’t seen him since…” He stops before mentioning that last night with my Mom. “It’s been a long time.”

“I doubt he’d recognize you.” My words seem to sting him a bit. “Just let me know before you meet me.”

He nods and walks through the main door. He waits for me to lock the door and walks with me to our cars. “Night, Ivy.”

“Goodnight.” I get into my car and close the door. I know he won’t leave until I do. He still does the protective hovering thing as if he was doing it for me every single day for the last few years.

The problem with that is that he hasn’t.

The anger starts building back up, but it isn’t as intense as the hotel room. It isn’t even as intense as it was when he walked into my office. I want to be mad at him. I need it.

If I don’t have that anger, then that means I’m opening the door to him hurting me again.

I stop at the wine store and wave to Alana behind the counter. “Just grabbing a Prosecco. Anything new and delicious?”

“Nothing that you’d like.” I grab my bottle and make my way back to the counter. Her right brow raises, and she puckers her lips trying to hide a smile.

“Okay. What?” I set the bottle down and dig out my wallet.

“Good night tonight?” She smiles when I narrow my eyes confused. “Your skirt is on sideways.” She points at my waist and smirks while ringing me up.

“Oh! Shit!” I twist it and fix it before someone else walks in the door. I run my card through and scurry out the door as fast as possible.

I lightly bang my head on the steering wheel once I’m back in my car. Yeah. He is throwing me off.
